The Power of the Gospel
The gospel provides us with supernatural power for the life God has called us to live. Look at these wonderful passages below:
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Take a moment to dwell on some of those words. “Power of God”. “Grace is sufficient”. “Perfect in weakness”. “Power of Christ”. “I am content”. “I am strong”.
There is immense power that comes from the gospel!
The light of the gospel transforms us. It is the source of our strength in our lives. It gives us Hope beyond the grave where we know all will be made right. It is the good news that everyone should know. It is a rock solid foundation in our most difficult circumstances because we know that He loves us. It is full of supernatural expectations because we long to see others experience the same transformation we have! Embrace it, never get tired of it, and boldly share it with all those we know and love.
The Gospel in Life
Finding Joy in Trials
The gospel helps us to find contentment and joy even in hardships. This doesn’t mean we dismiss our struggles but rather view them through a lens of faith. These trials can be an opportunity for spiritual growth and deeper reliance on God. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” How can he say this? Because these challenges become opportunities for experiencing more of Christ’s power outworking in our lives.
Finding strength in weakness through the gospel means recognizing that in our most vulnerable moments, we can experience God’s power most powerfully, as He provides us with supernatural resilience, hope, and peace.
Living with Hope Beyond the Grave
The gospel promises hope beyond this life. It assures believers of a future where every wrong will be made right, and every tear will be wiped away.
The gospel offers us comfort and courage to face life’s brevity, malevolence, uncertainties and our mortality. Of course, this does not negate the pain of loss and hardship, but we can celebrate that Jesus overcame death, and that death is not the final word. It’s not the end of the story. We get to spend eternity in heaven in the presence of the living God. There will be no sickness. No death. No hardship. No pain and suffering. No crime. No injustice. No grief. No loss.
Sharing the Good News
Why should we share the gospel with others? The Great Commission calls us to share the gospel. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands his followers to “go and make disciples of all nations. The gospel offers a message of hope, love, and redemption to all who accept Jesus Christ as their savior.
Ultimately, sharing the gospel brings glory to God, and it is a reflection of his love through us. It proclaims the greatness of God’s character, the truth of His word, and the power of His saving grace. When someone becomes a Christ follower through believing in Jesus, it magnifies God’s glory as lives are transformed, communities are impacted, and His kingdom is advanced.
Sharing the gospel is an expression of God’s love for us, an extension of his grace in our lives, obedience to the Great Commission, fulfillment of the mission of the Church, and continuing of the legacy of discipleship making.
Fostering Supernatural Expectations
The Gospel message teaches us that God is not distant or disinterested in us, but is actively involved in the world. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection are the ultimate expressions of God’s active involvement and love for humanity. We believe that God works in us and through us in our everyday life, and as we grow closer to Him, we become more attuned to recognizing His hand at work in our lives. This creates a healthy supernatural expectation to see God’s work around us. The same God who was actively involved in the events of the gospel is the same God who works in our lives today.
It’s crucial to understand what I mean by “supernatural expectation”. I do not mean constantly seeking miraculous signs or wonders as proof of God’s presence. Instead, I do mean living in a way that anticipates and recognizes the various ways God works in our lives and the world around us. This supernatural expectation is about opening our hearts and minds to the extraordinary ways God can and does work in the natural and supernatural order of things.
Fostering this supernatural expectation is learning to see God’s hand in everyday life. This could be in answered prayers, moments of unexpected blessing, or even in the moments of strength and peace you may experience during difficult times. God is actively involved in our lives.
Be attentive to how God might use you in any situation and be open to opportunities to show His love to others. Expect that God can and will work through you to impact others’ lives positively.
Lastly, be comfortable with mystery and uncertainty. Not every situation will have a clear explanation or outcome, but this uncertainty is where faith grows. It’s an acknowledgment that God’s ways and thoughts are higher than ours, and that we trust in His ultimate goodness and sovereignty.
Inviting the Power of the Gospel
The invitation stands for every believer to rediscover the wonder of the gospel’s power. Continuously process and reflect, pray, and open your heart to the ways God wants to work in and through you. Allow the truths of the Gospel to seep into every aspect of your life, transforming you from the inside out.
